Safety First
If you smell gas, suspect carbon monoxide, or see sparks, evacuate immediately and call 911. Do not attempt to operate your system if you suspect a safety issue.
Turn off the HVAC System and wait 5 minutes for any unburned gas to disperse
Listen for the spark ignitor clicking when the HVAC System calls for heat
Inspect the HVAC System spark electrode for cracks or carbon buildup
Verify the HVAC System spark electrode gap is within manufacturer specifications
Call for HVAC System service if the spark ignition continues to fail
