Safety First
If you smell gas, suspect carbon monoxide, or see sparks, evacuate immediately and call 911. Do not attempt to operate your system if you suspect a safety issue.
Check that the HVAC System power switch is in the ON position and has not been accidentally turned off
Verify the HVAC System circuit breaker has not tripped and reset if necessary
Check that your HVAC System thermostat is set to heat or cool mode and the temperature setting is appropriate
Inspect the HVAC System for any obvious signs of damage, leaking, or unusual odors
If the HVAC System has a reset button, press it once and wait for the system to restart
If none of the above works, turn off the HVAC System and call for emergency service immediately
